Donald Trump Pulls White House Invite To Hamilton

Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda

SINGAPORE – – Wednesday afternoon, Donald Trump announced that he was rescinding his invitation to Alexander Hamilton to attend a special ceremony honoring the United States Coast Guard.

On his way back from Singapore and an historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the President told the remaining press, “We have to be very, very careful about who we let into this country, and my staff just informed me – they’re the best staff, the best staff – that Mr. Hamilton was not born in the United States, so it’s unfortunate. It’s unfortunate.”

The President added that while he used to think highly of Mr. Hamilton for writing Broadway musicals, Hamilton’s “association with the failing New York Post,” and “questionable immigration status” were enough to cause him to revoke his previous invitation to dine at the White House. Mr. Trump later tweeted, “Hamilton musical FAILURE. WASTE of Broadway talent. SO SAD.”
